Effective date: October 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Weather Penguin (“Weather Penguin,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, protects, and shares information when you visit myweatherpenguin.com, search for weather, view forecasts or weather-related information, create or access an account, use Google sign-in, contact us, or subscribe to email updates. This policy is written for Weather Penguin’s website and account, sign-in, weather, and newsletter features.
1. Who operates Weather Penguin and how to contact us
Weather Penguin is the website and weather-information service available at https://myweatherpenguin.com/. For privacy questions, requests to access or delete information, or questions about Google sign-in, contact info@myweatherpenguin.com. If the website displays a different current privacy contact address, use that address. We may ask you for information needed to verify that a privacy request relates to you before acting on it.
2. Information we collect
The information collected depends on how you use the site. We seek to collect information needed to provide the feature you request.
- Account and registration information. If you register, we process the email address, account username, display name, account identifier, registration details, and settings needed to create and maintain a WordPress account. If you create an account with a password, WordPress stores a password hash rather than a readable version of your password. Do not send your password or a sign-in code to us by email.
- Google sign-in information. When you choose “Sign in with Google,” the sign-in flow may provide the Google account email address, whether Google has verified that email address, your name or display name when available, and technical identity/credential information used to validate the sign-in. The Weather Penguin sign-in implementation checks the credential with Google and uses the verified email address to find or create your Weather Penguin account; it may use the name as the account display name. The Google credential is used to complete the validation request and is not intended to be retained as a long-term profile record by Weather Penguin. The website stores the WordPress account data needed for future sign-in.
- Email verification and one-time codes. When you request an account verification link, password reset, or one-time sign-in code, we process the destination email address, the relevant temporary token or code, its expiry time, and limited status information needed to complete the request and prevent misuse. One-time sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes. New-account verification links are designed to expire after 24 hours.
- Newsletter and weather-update subscriptions. If you subscribe, we process your email address, the email topics you select, subscription and confirmation status, and timestamps related to confirmation or unsubscribing. You may optionally provide a city or ZIP code to help tailor local forecast updates. We use a confirmation step before activating a new subscription.
- Weather queries and location. When you search by place name, city, or ZIP/postal code, the search term is used to request relevant weather information. If you voluntarily allow browser geolocation, your browser may provide device location coordinates so the site can retrieve local conditions. Location permission is optional; you can deny it and search by place instead. A city or ZIP code you separately enter for a newsletter is stored with that subscription until it is changed or deleted.
- Messages and contact information. If you contact the site, we process the name, email address, message, and any details you include so the site operator can respond.
- Technical, security, and usage information. WordPress, the hosting provider, security controls, and email or weather services may process IP address, request time, browser/device information, requested URL, error records, email delivery events, and other technical logs needed to operate the site, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and protect accounts. Rate-limiting controls may temporarily use an IP address with a request count.
3. How we use information
We use information for the following purposes: (a) to return the weather conditions, forecasts, radar, air-quality information, and other tools you request; (b) to create, authenticate, secure, and manage Weather Penguin accounts; (c) to confirm email ownership and deliver requested sign-in, verification, password-reset, and essential account-security messages; (d) to send the newsletter topics and weather updates you expressly select; (e) to answer contact messages; (f) to operate the website, diagnose failures, prevent spam, fraud, and abuse, and maintain service security; and (g) to comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce site terms. We do not use Google sign-in data for a purpose unrelated to providing or protecting the sign-in and account features described in this policy.
4. Google sign-in: data access, use, and storage
Google sign-in is optional. If you choose it, Google provides an authentication credential that Weather Penguin submits for validation. The site checks that the credential was issued for the configured Google OAuth client and that the email address is present and verified. Depending on what is returned in the sign-in response, the site may use your name and email address to create or match a WordPress account. The email address becomes the account identifier used for account management and communications; the name may be used as the display name.
Weather Penguin’s sign-in feature is intended for authentication and account creation only. It does not ask for permission to read your Gmail messages, Google Drive files, contacts, calendar, or other Google services. We do not collect or store Google account passwords. We do not intentionally retain the raw sign-in credential after it has been validated. The associated Weather Penguin account details are stored in the website’s WordPress database and may be included in routine hosting backups. Temporary validation requests are sent to Google’s authentication infrastructure so Google credentials can be checked.
Google may separately process information under Google’s own privacy policy and service terms. Google’s handling of your Google account is not controlled by Weather Penguin. If we change the Google permissions or access additional Google data in the future, we will update this policy and provide any required notice before using that data for a new purpose.
5. Google API Services User Data Policy and Limited Use
Weather Penguin’s use of information received from Google sign-in is limited to providing, securing, and supporting the user-facing account and authentication features that you request. We do not sell Google user data, use it to serve targeted or personalized advertising, disclose it to data brokers or information resellers, or use it to determine eligibility for credit or lending. We do not use Google user data to develop, train, or improve generalized or non-personalized artificial intelligence or machine-learning models. We do not transfer Google user data except as necessary to provide or improve the sign-in/account functionality you requested, to protect security, to comply with law, or with your affirmative consent where appropriate. Access by personnel is restricted to legitimate support, security, operational, or legal needs and is not permitted for unrelated purposes. Weather Penguin’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
6. When and with whom we share information
We do not sell personal information. We may allow service providers to process limited information on our behalf only as reasonably necessary to operate Weather Penguin or provide a feature you request. Categories of service providers can include:
- Google authentication services, when you initiate Google sign-in, to validate the sign-in credential.
- Website hosting, database, backup, and security providers, to make the website available, store account/subscription records, back up the site, and protect it from malicious activity.
- Weather-data and mapping providers, to process a place search or an optional location request and return the requested weather information or map/radar data.
- Email delivery providers, including the mail server or SMTP/transactional email service configured by the site operator, to send verification, sign-in, password-reset, welcome, contact-response, and opted-in newsletter messages. These providers may process the recipient address, message content, delivery status, and technical delivery information.
- Technical support and security providers, where enabled, to diagnose issues, limit abuse, and maintain the site.
These providers handle information according to their own service terms and privacy notices and their arrangements with the site operator. We do not authorize service providers to sell Google user data or use it for advertising. We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or a valid government request; where necessary to investigate security incidents or protect users, the site, or the public; or in a business reorganization or transfer where allowed by law and appropriate safeguards apply. We do not otherwise share Google user data with third parties for purposes other than those described in this policy.
7. Newsletter and email preferences
Newsletter subscription is optional and separate from account registration. When you enter an email address and select topics, the subscription remains pending until you use the confirmation link sent to that address. After confirmation, we use your address and selected topics to send the updates you requested. Optional city or ZIP information may be used to tailor localized content. Marketing/newsletter emails include an unsubscribe mechanism where supported. You may also contact us to request removal from newsletter communications.
Unsubscribing stops future newsletter/campaign messages for that subscription. We may keep a minimal suppression record of the address and unsubscribe status so that we can honor your choice and avoid sending further newsletters to that address. This does not stop essential account messages that you request, such as verification or password-reset emails, or notices necessary to secure an account.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
WordPress may use essential cookies to maintain an authenticated session, support security features, remember required site settings, and make account features work. Some functions may not work correctly if you block these cookies. The website’s hosting provider or security services may also use technical mechanisms to protect the service. Additional WordPress plugins, analytics, advertising tools, embedded maps, videos, or other third-party components may set their own cookies or collect other information if the site operator installs or enables them. The site's operator should review active plugins and update this notice if those features are enabled.
9. Data retention
We keep personal information for no longer than reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law. In general:
- Account records are kept while the account is active and until deletion is requested or otherwise appropriate, subject to security, backup, legal, and dispute-resolution needs.
- One-time sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes and are stored temporarily in a protected/hash form for verification. Account verification links are designed to expire after 24 hours.
- Newsletter details are kept while a subscription is pending or active. After unsubscribing, a minimal suppression record may be retained to respect the opt-out.
- Contact messages are kept as long as needed to respond and maintain reasonable records of the conversation.
- Technical and security logs are kept according to the hosting, security, and operational settings in place and are removed or rotated as those retention periods end.
- Backups may retain deleted information for a limited period until the applicable backup cycle overwrites or removes it.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it, anonymize it, or otherwise dispose of it securely where reasonably practicable. Exact retention periods can vary with the configured host, mail service, backups, legal requirements, and security needs.
10. Security measures
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information, which may include WordPress access controls, password hashing, expiring verification links and one-time codes, request rate limits, restricted administrative access, and secure web connections when the site is accessed over HTTPS. Temporary sign-in codes are not stored as readable codes in the site’s temporary storage. Email and hosting providers may apply their own safeguards. No website, email transmission, or data-storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Please protect access to your email account and devices, never share a one-time code, and notify us if you suspect unauthorized account access.
11. Your privacy choices and requests
You can choose whether to use Google sign-in, decline browser geolocation, search for weather by place instead, choose newsletter topics, confirm or decline a newsletter subscription, and unsubscribe from campaigns. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information by emailing info@myweatherpenguin.com. Please tell us which email address or account is involved and what you are requesting, but do not send us your password or sign-in code. We may request reasonable information to verify identity before acting. We will respond as required by applicable law and may retain records where required for legal compliance, security, or to honor an unsubscribe request. You may also manage WordPress account information through any account controls made available on the site.
12. Children’s privacy
Weather Penguin is a general-audience weather information website and is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information and it should be removed, contact us using the address above. We will review the request and take appropriate action as required by applicable law.
13. Third-party services and links
Weather results, maps, radar, Google sign-in, hosting, security, and email delivery may depend on third-party services selected or configured by the site operator. Those services may receive the information required to deliver their function and may have separate privacy policies. Links to external websites are provided for convenience; Weather Penguin does not control the privacy practices or content of independent websites. Review the applicable provider's privacy policy when using those services.
14. International processing
Weather Penguin and its providers may operate systems in more than one country. As a result, information may be processed or stored in a country that has privacy laws different from those where you live. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, the site operator should implement those safeguards with the relevant provider.
15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the website, account functionality, providers, data practices, or legal requirements. We will update the effective date when making a substantive revision and provide additional notice where required. If the way Google user data is accessed, used, stored, shared, or retained changes, we will update the relevant disclosures before using it for a new purpose.
16. Contact for privacy questions and deletion requests
For privacy questions or to request access, correction, or deletion, email info@myweatherpenguin.com. Please use “Privacy Request” in the subject line so the site operator can identify the purpose of your message.
